František Jirák was born in 1913 in the Czech Republic. He studied at the "Mistrovská škola stolarská" (School of Master Carpenters) and at the "Specialna skola pre vnutornu architekturu" (Special School of Interior Architecture) in Prague. For the next eleven years he worked at the Spojene UP zavody (United Art and Industrial Enterprises) in Brno under the direction of the great furniture designer Jindrich Halabala.
In 1948, he moved permanently to Slovakia to work there as an "expert in the development of new types of furniture" for the then rapidly changing wood industry. Shortly after his arrival, he was given the position of "Head of the Development Department" in the Regional Directorate of Woodworking Companies (which later became the "Company for the Development of the Furniture Industry").
At the end of the 1960s, he started working with a national company called "Novy domov" (New House) in Spisska Nova Ves, where he worked as a designer until his retirement.
