An exceptional 1930s Bauhaus writing desk, Model H-180, designed by Jindřich Halabala for UP Závody, one of the leading Czechoslovak furniture manufacturers of the period.
The desk combines richly figured wood veneers with a distinctive tubular steel structure, reflecting the strong influence of Bauhaus and Functionalist design on Halabala’s work during the 1930s.
The generous rectangular writing surface is supported on one side by a substantial four-drawer pedestal, with particularly attractive figured veneer fronts and original-style metal fittings. The opposite side features the characteristic bent tubular steel support together with a suspended lower shelf, creating an elegant asymmetrical composition.
A highly architectural piece, the H-180 combines practical storage and a substantial working surface with the clean geometry and innovative use of materials associated with European Modernism.
A striking and increasingly collectible example of Halabala's early modernist furniture, equally suited to a sophisticated home office, study or contemporary interior.

The wooden surfaces retain a rich colour and attractive grain, with some age-related marks, variations and signs of wear visible on closer inspection. The tubular steel elements also show appropriate signs of age.
