A fantastic three-piece modular sofa by Carl Straub, dating from the 1970s and defined by its wonderfully low, architectural profile.
The set consists of three individual lounge modules, allowing it to be arranged together as a three-seat sofa or separated into individual lounge chairs. The substantial black frames have a bold sculptural quality, with sweeping side panels and an exceptionally clean, low-slung silhouette.
The cushions have been newly upholstered in rich rust-orange velvet, creating a strong contrast against the black frames and giving the set a distinctly warm 1970s character.
One of the great advantages of this design is its modularity. The three pieces can form a conventional sofa, a more informal broken-up seating arrangement, or three completely independent chairs – particularly useful in contemporary open-plan interiors where flexibility matters.
A characterful and increasingly difficult-to-find example of German 1970s modernist furniture, combining strong geometry, comfort and versatility.
