Danish Lounge Chairs – Thams Kvalitet, Denmark, 1970s
Price per chair. Two chairs are available.
A striking original Danish lounge chairs produced by Thams Kvalitet – A/S Vejlen Polstermøbelfabrik in the 1970s. These chairs perfectly capture the Scandinavian fascination with comfort combined with advanced woodworking techniques of the period. The elegant cantilevered frame, formed from laminated bentwood, creates a floating appearance while also acting as a natural suspension system — making the seating exceptionally soft without heavy internal springs.
The chairs retain their original thick black leather upholstery, now beautifully aged with an authentic patina developed over decades. The cushions are deeply padded and ergonomically shaped, with a high backrest and integrated head support, designed for long and relaxed seating. Sculptural wooden arm supports flow seamlessly into the sled base, demonstrating the refined craftsmanship Danish manufacturers became famous for during the 1960s–70s modernist era.
Our workshop has carefully cleaned, nourished and conditioned the leather using specialist balms, restoring flexibility and depth of colour while preserving the character. The wooden frames have been gently refreshed and protected, highlighting the warm tone of the timber and ensuring many more years of use.
