An iconic H-269 lounge chair designed by Jindřich Halabala, one of the most recognisable pieces of Czechoslovak modernist furniture from the 1930s. The design is defined by its dramatic continuous bentwood arms, which sweep from the back of the chair towards the floor to create its unmistakable sculptural profile.
Produced for Thonet, the H-269 combines Halabala’s experimental approach to bentwood construction with generous, relaxed proportions. The flowing wooden frame contrasts beautifully with the upholstered body, making the chair as striking from the side and rear as it is from the front.
This example has been professionally restored and newly upholstered in a rich yellow chenille, bringing warmth and texture to the original 1930s design. The timber has been carefully refinished while retaining the character appropriate to a piece of this age.
